Things I Haven’t Done
There are many items on my to do list that I would really like to do in this life. I’m not talking about travel that for monetary reasons I have not been able to do to this point in my life. These are things I could do right now if I chose to and lent time and effort to them. For whatever reason though I have yet to do any of them. I will now speak of them in the hope that I may start to motivate myself enough to get started on at least one of them.
Write a Book
My mastery of the english language my not be good enought to crack the NY Times Bestseller list yet, but I believe it is good enough to write a book. My imagination may not allow me to create worlds and bring them to the reader in a manner that is understandable, but it is decent. Writing a book is not something I think I would be great at, but it is something I would like to do, for me. I would love to tell a story from start to finish that would entertain or effect the reader in such a way to be remembered. That’s all. I even have the plot almost worked out:
“Jim is a normal guy. He has a normal wife, two normal kids, a normal pet and a normal job. Jim’s life is so normal that his last name is even Normal. Jim suffers from delusions of grandeur, however and his delusions are getting worse as of late, unbeknownst to the Normal family. At any time Jim will depict himself saving a stranger’s life, or meeting a secret admirer he didn’t know he had. Jim starts to imagine anything that will allow him to escape the normalcy of his life.
All that changes, however, when Jim is finally in the wrong place at the wrong time, changing everything about the Normal Family for ever…..or does it?”
Apply to Survivor
Those that know me well, know that my favorite reality show has always been Survivor. Out of the 17 seasons the show has aired, I have watched 15. It is rare that the most deserving person on the show each season, wins, but to their own fault. Most of the time there is one contestant that does outlast, outwit, outplay, but they fail to argue that to the jury. In fact, like Sugar did in this last season, they usually try to backtrack and apologize, when they should not. I would like to change that.
I would do whatever it took to get to the final three, then argue that I outlasted, outwitted and outplayed every last member of the jury. I would let the jury know, when asked, that while I enjoyed spending time with them, I needed to vote them off to win a million dollars. Plain and simple. I have hated every answer I have heard to the question “Why did you stab me in the back and vote me off”? My answer would simply be “because I wanted to last longer than you to win the million dollars.” When asked “Why do you deserve to win?” my answer would be “because I outwitted, outlasted, and outplayed everyone on the jury. I deserve the million because, whether it is the popular choice or not, I decided when and who to vote off.”
I know I can make it that far in the game, and make the correct argument to win the game of Survivor. I cannot explain, however, why I have yet to make a video to submit to CBS to apply to be on the show.
While there are more items that I have not begun to tackle to this point in my life, I will start with these. These are the two things I would like to start doing now. I’ll continue this topic another day.

Chevy Volt
Chevrolet is earning their tag line as the new revolution. This is the car I am waiting for. Not only does it have sleek styling, but the idea that, not only does the car achieve 50 mpg, but on most days, I wont even use the gas at all. That is what I call a commuter car.
If it meets specifications, it will charge up overnight from any standard electrical socket. It will go 40 miles on a charge. Then a small gasoline engine will ignite. The engine’s sole job will be to drive a generator, whose sole job will be to maintain the battery’s charge—not to drive the wheels, which will never see anything but electricity. In generator mode, the car will drive hundreds of miles on a tank of gas, at about 50 miles per gallon. But about three-fourths of Americans commute less than 40 miles a day, so on most days most Volt drivers would use no gas at all.

Week 3 – Day 1
My week 3 got off to a late start because I got lazy and did not complete the stress test for several days. I finally did do it on Tuesday and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Three weeks ago, doing my initial test, I was only able to complete 13 pushups. Tuesday I was able to complete 35. That’s almost three times as many already. I wonder if that means I am now almost three times as strong.
Not only was I lazy this week, but I also had my first setback this week. Each day, the program includes 5 sets, the last of which is a max set with an “at least” amount. Today’s “at least” amount is 25. You will see that I didn’t quite meet that goal:
25 + 17 + 17 + 15 + 12 = 86
That is more pushups then I’ve done to this point, but I still did not reach the goal for today. The site claims that this will happen to everyone, and to simply redo the week the very next week. At least that will give me an opportunity to restart Week 3 on schedule.

Week 2 – Day 2
It might have something to do with worrying about theDaughter being away at camp, but sleep does not feel restful this week. Waking up and getting going has become a chore and a half. It is because of this that I tried to talk myself out of doing my push ups this morning. I did not let myself off the hook though and completed Day 2 of Week 2:
16 + 13 + 11 + 11 + 15 = 66 Pushups

Pushups – Week 2 – Day 1
I woke up early this morning, not being able to sleep soundly with Breanna at Girl Scout Camp. I am finding out though that the pushups I am doing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday help me wake up more than coffee does. For the first time in my life I look forward to my workout mornings. Today’s routine:
12 + 12 + 9 + 7 + 15 = 55 Pushups

Pushups – Week 1 – Day 3
I have completed week one successfully and am more than ready to move on to week 2. When this week started, I was skeptical that I would complete the first week’s program without having to redo it, but I was able to get through it relatively easy. That is good, because the program only get tougher from here.
15 + 13 + 10 + 10 + 17 = 65 Pushups Today

100 Pushups – Day 1 v2
10 days ago, I found this website. A six week program which when completed would lead anyone to be able to do 100 consecutive pushups. The introduction and explanation made a lot of sense to me, so I decided I would pledge to complete the program. I started that day, one day before we started packing theInLaws truck in preparation for theMove part 2. That was a mistake. Muscles that I didn’t know I had spent the next 4 days screaming at me, while I was packing for two days, and then driving a big diesel rental truck. I did not continue the program on the road.
Instead, I have restarted my pledge to complete this 6 week program this morning. The program makes too much sense to me to not give it a second try:
why push ups?
Push ups are one of the basic and most common exercises for the human body. Push ups are not only great for your chest, but do a tremendous job of defining your abs, triceps, shoulders and torso.
Push ups can be performed no matter where you are, and best of all, they are completely free – no expensive equipment or annual gym fees required! If you’re looking to develop a great chest and shoulders, you could do much worse than follow along with the hundred push ups plan. Your core strength will also go through the roof too!

New Year, New Resolution
One of my resolutions this year is to lose weight. That is always one of my resolutions. I usually have other resolutions that I do keep. This year is no different.
I have not been a steady blogger as of late. It is something I always plan on doing more of, but I just never quite get around to it. This year I have made a resolution to update my blog more frequently. I have come to a few realizations that have caused me to change a few things about this blog to make the resolution possible.
First, I have realized that I am interested in a great number of things. To compensate for my plethora of interests I have tried in the past to create separate blogs to post to. This however has usually led me to have space that is never updated and has left me feeling overwhelmed, to the point that none of my blogs get updated.
Next, because I am interested in so many topics, I have trouble separating each of my interests while keeping all of my writing on one site. For the last few years, using blogger has made this extremely difficult. As I have found out, word press handles categories a lot better than blogger does. Because of this I have, once again, moved my blog.
I have also worked hard to condense my categories into the most general aspects of my life. I am interested in a great many things, but I have worked to group those into the following containers:
- Entertainment: This category will house my interest in music, books, pop culture and anything else I find entertaining.
- Family and Friends: This category will be used for that which is most important in my life, my family and friends. Before being asked, yes…pets are family.
- Human Nature: This category will house my interest in the human condition.
- Improvement: This category is meant for my interest in constantly improving myself.
- Poker: This category will include my fascination to playing poker, mainly Texas Hold’em.
- Sports: This category will be used for my love of sports, watching and participating.
- Technology: This category will house my love for the field in which I work, technology.
Now all I have to do is categorize the last 275 uncategorized posts which I have imported from my blogger site which never had categories. This is a long manual process, but I am not allowing myself to be slowed further by forcing that process to be completed before posting.
With all of that said, I’ll hopefully be posting more frequently.

With a Banjo on my Macchu Pichu
I have a module on my Google Personalized Home Page that shows me a daily “See Before You Die” sight complete with a picture. It’s at the bottom of my page, so I tend to not see it every day, but most days I do, and I get a glimpse of somewheres I’ve never been. It was right about the time I saw today’s however, that I realized I may have played one too many video games in years passed. So here is a test that I failed. Let’s see if anyone else fails this as well.Look at the picture on the right and tell me what place comes to mind:
- Macchu Picchu, Peru OR
- A scene from the Nintendo 64 game Banjo Kazooie.
I thought of Banjo Kazooie, which is why I fail. In fact, you can not tell me that the picture is not from the video game that I spent many an hour with while playing with theWife and theKids. I guess it truly is time to go see the rest of the world, though. I’ll add Macchu Picchu to my list of places to go.

Still Not Smoking
theWife and I are still not smoking. How good are we? I mean really, you just can’t beat us. It’s been 73 days and 8 hours, and neither of us have had a cigarette. So it’s funny that I find out now that someone has invented a way to enjoy the tobacco and nicotine, without any of the ill effects of standard cigarettes:
Wired News: Smoking 2.0 Give Lungs a Break
The NicStic is a cigarette-size plastic tube with a rechargeable heating coil that vaporizes tobacco instead of burning it. Pop a filter on the end of the tube, and in seconds it is warmed up enough for a nicotine fix without the smoke. Because it has no smoke, it also has none of the tar, arsenic, cadmium and formaldehyde of regular cigarettes;
So, this article is telling me that I could have all the benefits provided by the nasty smell of tobacco and addiction to nicotine without having to worry about the whole dieing thing. Sounds good no? Actually, no…thanks but I’ll stick to not being addicted or stinking like ass, which is what the article says these smell like.
