Rebel Yell

Posted in Entertainment, Family and Friends at 4:51 am by themike

I was just going through some videos on YouTube and found some cheap videos shot at the Foo Fighters Concert I took theDaughter to.  Being in the upper deck, I was not expecting to be able to hear myself in a video taken on the floor, but at 1:57 of this video, during the drum solo, you can hear me.  I promise that’s me, I remember Breanna covering her ears and thanking me after yelling during the drum solo:

Birthday Concert

Posted in Entertainment, Family and Friends at 4:59 am by themike

The average ten year old girl wants to go see Hannah Montana, er Mylee Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers in concert. When we asked theDaughter what she wanted to do for her 10th birthday, and she said she wanted to go see a concert, I was prepared for the worst. What I wasn’t ready for was her response. TheDaughter and I, upon her request, are going to see The Foo Fighters concert on the 25th.

O H I O

We are back in Ohio, at long last making oir final push home. 152 miles to go, then the unpacking phase will begin. At least I can rest knowing I’ll be sleeping in my own bed tonight.

Day 5 – The Final Day

Posted in Family and Friends at 9:19 am by themike

We are all gassed up and on the road heading for home. I will be so happy to be home. Not that the rental truck hasn’t provided me with a comfortable seat for the trip across, but my ass could use a break from sitting. I know that’s all I do at work all day, but at least I can stand up and stretch when I want to there.

The Longest Hour

Posted in Family and Friends at 5:38 pm by themike

The longest hour of each day has consistently been the last hour of driving. Today we’ve got an hour and a half left and time is already dragging…very….slowly. At least tomorrow is only a 300 mile day.

Speed Limit 75…No thanks.

Posted in Family and Friends at 12:56 pm by themike

We’ve just realized that 73 is too fast for a 24 foot rental truck towing a 12 foot trailer. Swaying is not fun at 73 MPH. A quick stop on the side of the road told us everything is OK though, and we’re back on the road, going 65 again.

Followers of my blog, in it’s many forms, know that theFamily and I moved cross country 3 years ago. We are doing it again, moving the in laws cross country this time. We’re on Day 3, driving from Cheyenne to Omaha today. Stay tuned as I update while I ride in the truck, I will not update while I’m driving.

Lesson Learned, Unfortunately

Posted in Family and Friends, Human Nature at 8:42 pm by themike

There are certain things in life that I am probably better off not knowing. Last night I learned one of those things:

Our Rabbit has a growth? – Yahoo! Answers
Rabbit abscesses are quite different to dog and cat abscesses – the pus is a lot thicker and harder, and their abscesses tend to be firm and very hard to break open, often appearing like a tumour.

The stench is also very nasty. As I found out, it is one of the few smells that actually makes me feel sick to my stomach and I have an iron stomach. theWife called me while I was still at work and told me that theBunny had a lump on her dewlap burst. There was pus all over her fur and she could not take the smell. She had to get theDaughter to Girl Scouts, to boot, so she asked if I could get theBunny cleaned up.

This is where I find out the above lesson learned is one that would never have made my bucket list. After discovering there would not be a vet available to see theBunny until tonight, I attempted to clean the broken abscess myself. When I say I “attempted” to clean it, I mean that I did it, but I bitched, moaned and whined very loudly while I was doing it. I was so loud in my complaining that theElderSon came into the room to help and almost passed out from the stench of this Bunny Pus.

Regardless of the events of last night, I am now smarter because I know the difference between the pus in an abscess on a cat or dog and that of the pus in the abscess of a bunny.  Lucky me.

A Dingo Ate My Baby

Posted in Family and Friends at 5:54 am by themike

Me thinks we in trouble. I have had a suspicious feeling the we own a dingo for quite some time, but now I have photographic proof, and documentation that we are in trouble:

The 6 Cutest Animals That Can Still Destroy You | Cracked.com

Dingo (Canis lupus dingo)

How cute!
Look at the pretty little puppy! Who’s a pretty little puppy?

Oh yes you are! Yes you are! Whoosagoodboyyy? Whooooooosagoodbooooooyyyyy?

Both of those images are pictures of Dingos directly from the article. After the jump we will discover that I am the proud owner of a dingo.

Now Hear This

Posted in Family and Friends at 6:28 am by themike

The oft fabled Swamp Thing has been found to have produced offspring. Proof has been found of this mythical creature in, of all places, Iowa. This myth has come under much scrutiny in recent years, but finally putting it to rest theElderSon holds his evidence for every one to see.

It comes in the form of a 37.5 inch, 27 pound, pond catfish caught on a bass lure to boot. Yes, that’s right, it was found in a pond, proving the Swamp Thing has been reproducing in this area. For your own safety, theElderSon is a trained professional, please do not attempt to approach or catch Swamp Thing or it’s offspring, or even go out at night if you find yourself near Iowa ponds. Thank you, now back to your regularly scheduled Saturday.
