Chevy Volt

Posted in Improvement at 4:28 am by themike

Chevrolet is earning their tag line as the new revolution. This is the car I am waiting for. Not only does it have sleek styling, but the idea that, not only does the car achieve 50 mpg, but on most days, I wont even use the gas at all. That is what I call a commuter car.

Electro-Shock Therapy

If it meets specifications, it will charge up overnight from any standard electrical socket. It will go 40 miles on a charge. Then a small gasoline engine will ignite. The engine’s sole job will be to drive a generator, whose sole job will be to maintain the battery’s charge—not to drive the wheels, which will never see anything but electricity. In generator mode, the car will drive hundreds of miles on a tank of gas, at about 50 miles per gallon. But about three-fourths of Americans commute less than 40 miles a day, so on most days most Volt drivers would use no gas at all.

Week 3 – Day 1

Posted in Improvement at 4:55 am by themike

My week 3 got off to a late start because I got lazy and did not complete the stress test for several days. I finally did do it on Tuesday and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Three weeks ago, doing my initial test, I was only able to complete 13 pushups. Tuesday I was able to complete 35. That’s almost three times as many already. I wonder if that means I am now almost three times as strong.

Not only was I lazy this week, but I also had my first setback this week. Each day, the program includes 5 sets, the last of which is a max set with an “at least” amount. Today’s “at least” amount is 25. You will see that I didn’t quite meet that goal:

25 + 17 + 17 + 15 + 12 = 86

That is more pushups then I’ve done to this point, but I still did not reach the goal for today. The site claims that this will happen to everyone, and to simply redo the week the very next week. At least that will give me an opportunity to restart Week 3 on schedule.

Week 2 is complete

It took me 45 minutes to convince myself to get down and do my pushups this morning. Just before I headed up to take a shower though, I talked myself into it, and week 2 is successfully complete.

15 + 15 + 12 + 12 + 20 = 74 Pushups

The Other Shoe Just Dropped

Bottom of the ninth with one on for Miguel Cabrera and Jensen Lewis gives up the walk off two run homer to lose the Indians’ tenth game in a row. I may be called negative, but I was actually waiting for that to happen, versus going to extra innings.

Time for bed. I do believe the Indians now know where rock bottom is.

Rock-Bottom

A new level of frustration is dawning for me and my love of the Tribe. In a season where the offense has been terrible, the bullpen has been worse. Tonight, in the midst of a season long nine game losing streak, Paul Byrd, who hasn’t won in a month, took the mound and pitched a gem into the 7th inning. The offense did its part as well, for once, and gave Byrd a 6-1 lead. In the 7th, however, Byrd gave up two consecutive hits and was pulled. Rafael Betencourt then proceeded to allow Detroit to tie the game at 6-6. As good as Rafe right was last year, he is that bad this year.

I’ve heard it said that sometimes things cannot improve until rock bottom is achieved. If the Indians lose this game, I believe they will reach that low.

Week 2 – Day 2

It might have something to do with worrying about theDaughter being away at camp, but sleep does not feel restful this week. Waking up and getting going has become a chore and a half. It is because of this that I tried to talk myself out of doing my push ups this morning. I did not let myself off the hook though and completed Day 2 of Week 2:

16 + 13 + 11 + 11 + 15 = 66 Pushups

Non Technical Tech

Posted in Technology at 8:51 am by themike

I do not understand why there are non-technical people working in technical jobs. I work in the IT department for a non Technical company, but still feel that everyone working in our department should be very technical. That is not the case however.

Last week I witnessed one of my coworkers leaving a note for another one of my coworkers. It was written with pen on paper, dated, signed and taped to her monitor so she would receive it when she gets in. How is it, though, that this coworker, who is in a technical position, thinks of leaving a written note, versus sending an e-mail?  That I do not understand

A Guide To Life

Things They Don’t Tell You (But Should). This is hilarious. For example:

The majority of people are borderline sociopaths who’d step over your corpse to get a better parking space, and yet they won’t hesitate to pass howling judgement on you if you screw up in even the most minute, insignificant way. Just one more reason to not screw up. Ever.

Pushups – Week 2 – Day 1

Posted in Improvement at 4:43 am by themike

I woke up early this morning, not being able to sleep soundly with Breanna at Girl Scout Camp. I am finding out though that the pushups I am doing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday help me wake up more than coffee does. For the first time in my life I look forward to my workout mornings. Today’s routine:

12 + 12 + 9 + 7 + 15 = 55 Pushups

Pushups – Week 1 – Day 3

Posted in Improvement at 6:23 am by themike

I have completed week one successfully and am more than ready to move on to week 2. When this week started, I was skeptical that I would complete the first week’s program without having to redo it, but I was able to get through it relatively easy. That is good, because the program only get tougher from here.

15 + 13 + 10 + 10 + 17 = 65 Pushups Today
